Over the last 4 years, I’ve tested countless scooters, amassed a database of 140+ models, and helped thousands of people find the right scooter.

All of the scooters that I review are put through a rigorous review process so I can clearly distinguish where one is better or worse than another.

10001-1

If you want to choose a convenient way to get around town while reducing your carbon footprint, an electric scooter could be just what you’re looking for. These scooter devices make sense for essential short-distance travel, especially given the difficulty of social distance on public transportation.

These are genuine electric vehicles with solid tires, a sophisticated braking system, a large battery pack, and the ability to travel over semi-rough terrain.

It’s good to take one of the best electric scooters for a spin, whether you’re going to work or just for fun. These modern modes of transportation are ideal when the distance is too great to walk but too brief to drive. They’re faster and quieter than bikes, and they’re also much more portable.

We put a number of the top models through rigorous testing to bring you our top recommendations for the best electric scooters.

Only some people use their electric scooters the same way, and others use them differently. So we have selected some criteria so everyone can find their way. Here’s how to get an opinion on an electric scooter.

What to look for?

For extra safety, the quality of the braking system is important, especially with scooters with a high top speed. Disc brakes are generally considered the best option as they are easier to maintain.

Riding an electric scooter is not without risks, and you are vulnerable in traffic. Scooters must have good brakes, tires, and lighting to limit the risks.

We recommend looking for models with wheels equal to or larger than 10 inches in diameter. Smaller wheels tend to give a rougher ride and can easily catch on potholes and cracks on the road. The grip is also important for good driving comfort.

Most electric scooters have a maximum load of 100kg, but some will only perform well with passengers of 80kg and below. A higher maximum load generally means a firmer scooter. Our advice is to buy a scooter that is as strong as possible. Firmness often equates to quality.

What to avoid?

An electric scooter's motor provides the power and the acceleration it needs to climb inclines. The higher the motor wattage, the easier it can climb high places. Most scooters start with motors with 250 watts and can reach speeds up to 15 mph. While this might seem good, they won't be able to climb slopes and may struggle to reach their top speeds on roads with even a slight incline.
Since traveling through completely flat routes is rare, look for an electric scooter with at least 350 watts.

The electric scooter will last longer if you opt for a scooter made of higher-quality materials, such as high-quality steel/aluminum.

If you need to carry the e-scooter up and down the stairs at home or in the office, buy a foldable and lightweight model. Weight is indeed an important criterion. We recommend that scooters stay within 28 lbs in weight.

Lastly, the final mistake to avoid when buying an e-scooter is not asking for warranty service. A reliable and legitimate electric scooter retailer always offers a warranty or repair service in case of factory defects or damages to your e-scooter. The warranty protects you in case you receive a faulty unit.

SparkScoot is the best electric scooter in our test for a simple reason: the quality/price ratio is incredible.

It’s made from aviation-grade aluminium, uses a safe and high-performing battery pack, and (with an eye on the UK market) is IP54 waterproof. Weighing in at a manageable 12kg and measuring just over 1m in length, the SparkScoot T8 is perfectly sized to drop into your car or campervan boot.

Beyond this, you can expect SparkScoot’s self-healing tyres, full lighting including indicators, disc & regenerative braking, and a 120kg rider weight limit. Equipped with a 400W brushless motor the T8 is on par with high-performance scooters.

Rugged 10-inch off-road tires and a quality front and back brake system ensure a comfortable ride even on the roughest terrain. This is a great example of the versatility of the e-scooter – it can be commuted on to work as easily as it can be ridden on a day out in nature.

Verdict: The best design on the market, versatile to ride and a joy to behold. More expensive forerunners slightly outclass it.

Segway is famous for its self-balancing personal transporters, which have become popular at many tourist attractions. The Ninebot is one of the most expensive e-scooters on test but it’s an exceptional scooter in many respects. The MAX G30 has a digital screen where you can read several things.

This scooter has pneumatic tires without an inner tube. A specially designed rubber outer layer protects the tires from punctures. Unfortunately, there are no shock absorbers.

This scooter is foldable, but weighs nineteen kilograms. So you must consider that if you want to carry it over a longer distance.

This electric scooter has a maximum load capacity of 100 kilograms. Switching to another electric scooter is better if you weigh a kilo more.

Fast and comfortable, the BEEPER 2-speed urban electric scooter is ideal for riding around town, going to work or pursuing your favorite hobby.

This model has a battery life of up to 35 km and is equipped with a multifunction LCD color screen. According to the product comparison and consumer reviews, this electric scooter has several advantages, such as stability thanks to the suspension, safe speed control on slopes, and ease of storage.

However, there are some drawbacks.

These mainly concern the charging socket located behind the mudguard, which is annoying in bad weather, the wheels tend to skid when it rains. And the questionable quality of the paint. The disc brake brakes quite sharply, which is quite dangerous on steep slopes.

The strengths of the Niu KQi3 Sport undoubtedly include the convenient handling (also with a view to the Niu app) and the generously dimensioned tread surface. The processing quality is also high level and leaves nothing to be desired. The recuperation brake, which makes the front disc brake almost superfluous at the highest level, is also practical.

In addition, the 9.5 inch wide pneumatic tires provide quite good shock absorption, so that you don’t get shaken up excessively when you’re off the asphalt.

However, the front double disc brake was primarily noticed negatively. After a short drive in a light drizzle on asphalt, a little dirt got into the brakes and caused metallic grinding noises. While the problem was relatively easy to fix, a better protection mechanism – such as additional, longer or more strategically positioned fenders – would undoubtedly have been an advantage. It also takes about five seconds for the electric scooter to start up again after you briefly take your finger off the rotary lever. And the new sports model is not too light or handy either.

If you’re just dipping your toe into e-scooter ownership and don’t want to spend big bucks, this will be definitely the electric scooter for you. It is waterproof and works with an app. It also has comprehensive one-year warranty. As mentioned in our review, it can be used for a long time due to its feature of solidity.
The T8 is an all-round capable electric commuter scooter. Carrying a modern GT-Series-inspired design, great technology, solid performance and a comfortable ride, it is an excellent option for those who want to commute on something a little better than a standard commuter e-scooter.
